Interesting Video: Tiger’s Virtual Boy Clone

Apparently Tiger Electronics tried to compete with Nintendo’s gimmicky and unsuccesful Virtual Boy. Its red-and-black handheld was called the “R-Zone”:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R-Zone, and it could also be played without the headset. I find it amazing how much of game history is conveniently lost – all this took place only a decade ago.

*Update:* Here’s “a longer commercial”:http://www.retrojunk.com/details_commercial/104/ that falsely suggests arcade-like graphics. Also, I found an interview Steven Kent had “with Gunpei Yokoi”:http://www.sadsamspalace.com/VideoGames/2-yokoi%20gameboy%20story.html in 1995, in which Yokoi revealed that a Virtual Boy shoulder mount was planned.
