Week 813

What’s this? I’m blogging about my work on a weekly basis – a simple way to track and archive whatever it is I spend my time on.

Last week on Tuesday morning, I edited some short game reviews for nrc.next: Rogue Legacy by Rogier Kahlmann and Cucalu by Stefan Keerssemeeckers. And I wrote about iOS game Soccer Physics myself, after playing it with my kids a lot. I like how to them, it’s football, while to me, it’s a commentary on the chance factor and beauty of the sport. The three reviews were pushed forward a week because of Robin William’s passing. So it goes.

The paper did publish my article on No Man’s Sky, which also appeared in NRC Reader. You can check it out for free (in Dutch): Een droom van een spel. The editors had asked me to write about this stunning looking space game, but I didn’t want to do a straight-up preview (I never do that anymore). So instead, I wrote about the tradition (and joys, and dangers) of looking forward to unfinished games. Later in the week, I edited it into a shorter piece for NRC Handelsblad, in which it should appear next Wednesday.

Also on Wednesday, I finished the Arjan Brussee interview for Bright Ideas. It turned out really well, I think, and I hope it will be in there soon.

Other than that, nothing! I was on vacation!
