Feeling smug

Notes on week 865

With these weeknotes I track and archive whatever it is I spend my time on. They’re public so you can keep me in check.

Great news from the EU last week. Four Dutch game projects were awarded grants within Creative Europe’s Support for Development of European Video Games program, including a sum of € 140.800 for Codeglue’s team-based procedural Space Maya 2D shooter Antegods. (If you’re interested, the full list of grants is a nice who’s who of European game development.)

Antegods

As a strong narrative component was a prerequisite for the program, I helped Codeglue shape the game’s concept and write the proposal that resulted in this grant, and will be working on the game as well as the companion graphic novel (the pretty concept art above was created by Tom Rutjens). I don’t think I mentioned it here, but Antegods got € 50.000 from the Dutch Game Fund too, based on another proposal I co-wrote. All of this makes me super proud; I can’t wait to join the next phase of development.

The news came in during my vacation, so last week I didn’t do much except feeling smug. (Although I wrote bits and pieces of Geometry Girl inbetween reading the first part of Mark Z. Danielewski’s The Familiar.) If you’re curious, the weather was so great I got sunburn on my ears, exposed as they were after the previous week’s haircut. Until the weather turned bad, that is.
