Week 727

What’s this? I’m blogging about my work on a weekly basis – a simple way to track and archive whatever it is I spend my time on.

I’ve been deep in rewriting my upcoming novel De verdwijners for so long, these weeknotes are starting to feel like rewrites too. The work is still slow but good, and there’s no sign of weariness. At all.

Not much else happened: I made my last visit to Two Tribes for the year on Monday, on Wednesday I met up with fellow games journalist Stefan Keerssemeeckers, and on Friday the new issue of the Dutch Official PlayStation Magazine came in, which contains my first PlayStation 2 retro column. Also, the Mayans were interpreted wrong.

A Christmas tree entered our household and I discovered the amazing Silver & Gold by Sufjan Stevens: 58 tracks of eclectic seasonal goodness. Finally, I can listen to Christmas music without becoming physically ill. Sufjan himself remains a mystery: how can someone so seemingly normal put out mountains of masterful music on a regular basis?

Finally, speaking of effortlessly executed ambition: Cloud Atlas seems like a great book (I only read Ghostwritten by David Mitchell), and the movie is a brave attempt to bring it to life. I enjoyed it, despite some annoyances and disappointments.
