Week 747

What’s this? I’m blogging about my work on a weekly basis – a simple way to track and archive whatever it is I spend my time on.

Last week, as planned, I tweaked my upcoming novel De verdwijners. Most of my time went into shifting the tone of the first chapters, to make them a little bit less depressing. I added two totally new pages there, material that I’m pretty happy with. Among other things, I also changed the chapter structure quite radically. I wrapped this up on Sunday night and sent the latest version of the manuscript off to my editor.

On Tuesday, I spent some hours over at Hubbub to work on Ripple Effect. That night, I attended Control Gamelab in the Amsterdam-based Pakhuis de Zwijger, together with Hubbub’s Kars Alfrink, where we were interviewed about our work on Code 4 and Your Daily Victory Boogie Woogie.

Speaking of Victory Boogie Woogie, I contributed my sixth entry: Monologue intérieur du chevalier, although I had to skip the editorial meeting on Friday in favor of book tweaking.

On Monday, my Guacamelee! review was printed in nrc.next, and later in the week, I did an email interview with Drinkbox, the game’s Toronto-based development studio, for the Dutch Official PlayStation Magazine.

Finally, continuing the previous week’s tradition of rewatching movies I loved in the late nineties, I saw Záhrada (Slovakia, 1995). All I remembered is that it was a beautiful film about a guy and a girl in a garden, and I’m pretty sure I didn’t notice any of the allegorical stuff, nor the philosophy references. But I did now, and I enjoyed it a lot. Highly recommended.
