Week 809

What’s this? I’m blogging about my work on a weekly basis – a simple way to track and archive whatever it is I spend my time on.

Last week on Monday, my article on Dota 2 tournament The International was published in NRC Handelsblad. You can read it on Blendle.

On Tuesday, I finished a new ‘Wishful Thinking’ column for the Dutch edition of Official PlayStation Magazine, imagining a game simulating the building site mess in my home town’s train station area. After that, I wrote something about Action Henk, which appeared in Wednesday’s nrc.next alongside game reviews by Jurjen Tiersma and Harry Hol, that I edited. Finally, I posted my earlier Valiant Hearts review on this site (in Dutch): De chaos ontwijken.

On Thursday morning, I finished the first draft of the dialog script for the Gamescom demo of Two Tribes’ new space shooter. After that, I visited the studio, where we spent the majority of the afternoon brainstorming titles.

When I got back home, I received the news that the Creative Industries Fund NL had denied my grant request again, which was then immediately overshadowed by the news of the MH17 crash. So instead of feeling bad about a puny grant denial, I felt bad about the world in general.

To forget, I worked on my Japanese village phone game Sato all night and most of Friday. The week ended well: I visited the Escape Challenge in Delft with friends and family. It was the third escape room I’ve tackled, and the best so far. I now was ready to write an article about this trend.
